FUNDRAISING

Surf Life Saving is Australia’s leading authority on water safety and rescue, as well as one of the largest volunteer organizations in the country. All surf lifesavers undergo rigorous training by earning their Bronze Medallion or Surf Rescue Certificate. While these skills are specifically designed for beach environments, they can also be applied to everyday situations, contributing to a safer community overall. As a result, the community holds surf life saving in high regard, and surf lifesavers have become iconic figures in Australian culture.

Our Club relies on the support of community members and community-minded organizations to continue providing essential volunteer lifesaving services at Woorim Beach, Bribie Island. Bribie Island is a popular and family-friendly beach, attracting around 70,000 visitors each year. Our dedicated volunteer lifesavers carry out approximately 6,500 preventative actions annually to ensure safety.

The costs of acquiring and maintaining lifesaving equipment are covered through various means, including government grants, sponsorships, and donations. However, due to a decrease in grants and sponsorships in recent seasons, we heavily depend on the fundraising efforts of our volunteer members. Whilst the club does not need to pay surf life savers for the 9500+ hours they volunteer each year to keep our beach safe. We face the challenge of needing approximately $75000 annually for new and replacement equipment, including first aid supplies, rescue tubes and boards, radios, IRBs and ATVs, which are all crucial pieces of equipment for ensuring the safety of beachgoers.

Donations play a key role in enabling our services and are fully tax-deductible. We encourage members to promote donations from individuals and businesses in their networks. Sponsorships are also available, providing businesses with advertising opportunities in return for their financial support, which offers great exposure.

The QLD Lifesavers Appeal, an annual fundraising initiative by Surf Life Saving Queensland, is vital for securing the necessary equipment, training, and resources for our volunteer lifesavers. Running throughout October 2023, this online appeal aims to highlight our urgent funding needs and encourage community and corporate support.

Additionally, our Nippers program hosts a BBQ every Sunday morning during the season, providing a fun fundraising opportunity. Nipper parents are encouraged to help when their age group is scheduled, and all club members' support is appreciated. Regular raffles held in the Supporters Club also contribute significantly to our club.
